This does not list quad in the application listing. Not sure if it's gyro compatible ?
 v_max 4353 points
For quad use basic plane setup.. You do not need any mixing capabilities like for heli or vtail on main sticks.. just simple Ael=roll, rud=yeaw, ele=pitch, throttle is throttle... All stabilizing functions are done by flight controllers...

I modified the module (as it is shown in section "files-9x transmitter module modified) and I put a SMA jack on it in order to make it fully removable. Could anybody tell me what kind of antenna to buy to fit the T9x original module?(the technical characteristics of the antenna). Thanks a lot!
 NewToHobbyKing 14826 points
H.G. the best thing would be to mod the antenna that came off. So to get this done you could buy (PRODUCT ID: FR2DBANT FrSky 2.4G V8 Series 2db module Antenna). Then you can use parts of that to make the antenna than came off the Turnigy9XV2 to screw onto the back. (Before you cut the new antenna, give it a go on the MODULE. It may just work, check range.)
 v_max 4353 points
I'd recomend 5dbi antenna PRODUCT ID: FR5BANT A bit better then 2dbi one.
 NewToHobbyKing 14826 points
V_max yes if he was going to fit it. So just search Antenna 2.4. Thanks V!

Should I take this on or the orange t-six ? If I am a beginner .
 georgiev.s 732 points
You can take this and later you can easily upgrade it with orange or frsky modules for more better range.
 Healkor 8 points
You should take this. Because it has a good price and well quality and you can use it for a long period, as a beginner or a Pre-professional.

For me it is a matter of taste and what you started with. I started with a 9x so I stay with the 9x and I enjoy them. For me the short comings of the 9x are 1x 3-position switch and firmware upgrade to er9x that I had to do myself. The advantages are 8ch and replaceable RF module. The output power of the supplied module is about 10mW which is okay for me as I do park flying. For a better signal you can upgrade to OrangeRx (~100mW) or FrSky (~100mW).
 NewToHobbyKing 14826 points
Lou I have this and it is great but Orange is DSM. Why not get a Turnigy 9XR and a OrangeRX DSM X / DSM2 Compatible 2.4Ghz Transmitter Module (JR/Turnigy compatible) (SKU: 9171000070). Then later you can pick up a DSSS module and you can then use all those HK 6A V2 receiver that we all have laying around.
 n-nike 19 points
take this as it has a lot more features than the orange transmitter at a better price.also it is regarder as the best budget radio in the hobby market today.
 NewToHobbyKing 14826 points
This is why I said he should go with the 9XR and fir an Orange Module!
 Filipe 23 points
Try the 9XR PRO !!!! Its better.

I use this transmitter with a HK 6 ch. reciever and an Orange flight stabilizer onn a Cessna 182-500, and everything is O.K. But, because there is no failsafe on this reciever, I tried to put a Trnigy micro failsafe on the ailerons. I put it first between the reciever and the flight stabilizer, then I put it between the stabilizer and the servos, but in both situation the failsafe does not work. I checked the failsafe separatly, and there is nothing wrong with the device. Could anybody help me with this problem? Thanks!
 v_max 4353 points
failsafe wouldn't work with this RX... to detect signall loss FS need some clue (absense of signal from RX) but... this rx continue to provide output signals even if you switch off transmitter. So failsafe has no clue RX lost signal... This is common problem for most cheap digital receivers as it's output signal are generated by timer from data stored in internal registers. When signal lost this registers values no more updated but timer continue generating signals from last known values...

Thank you for your answer, but what I find strange is that this failsafe works perfect with the Turnigy 9ch. reciever and with the HK 3ch. reciever(on the other 2 chennels than the one that has its own failsafe! You have to admit that both recievers are in the cheap class!
 v_max 4353 points
As I know from my experience with 8ch turnigy v2 RX it stops sending pulses to out when signal lost. This triggers external failsafe OK. (as welll as most flightcontrollers can detect this as signal lost). And as I can see from description for GT2E 3ch receiver it has real build-in failsafe feature (button), so you can store values which should be used when signal lost. Has no idea what it sends to outputs when failsafe is never set. probably also just stops if set nothing. But tr6a behalf different ... it just continue to send output signals.. Tried to use it on tiny quad but get rid of it just because of impossible to setup failsafe..

Hello, does this radio have a three position switch I could use to change flight modes on a quad? Thank you.
 v_max 4353 points
Yes it has ONE three position switch. But three positions are not too much... For MWI firmware you can combine this 3 on aux 1 with 2 pos switch on aus 2 to have total of 6 modes. But with APM flight controllers has only one channel to switch flight modes (up to 6 modes) I moded my t9x with 6 pos waffer switch with resistor divider instead of one useless pots ... Works perfect.
 Wazza_99 1219 points
If you plan to use the 3 pos switch on the stock firmware, good luck. I had to waste 2 hours of my life trying to setup differential thrust on a plane and with no documentation anywhere online, it was a PITA. Managed to do it, but it was a phyric victory! You have to play/test extensively in the mix menu to use it. it seems to be easy for 3 pos flaps etc but for my case, it was difficult.

14 thumbs up!
I am using an ASSAN hacker modulewith the 9X Tx.
With no recievers available I hooked up the Hacker as follows:
1- Top Pin signal
2- no connection
3- Red plus
4- Black -
5- no connection.

You can see photo's at www.link only gave it 4 stars as the TX did not work as recieved, one of the wires to the dual rate switch was not connected, an easy fix.

9 thumbs up!
I'd give this radio a 5 star rating but there are a few minor things that subtract points.
-One is that putting the batteries is a hassle, the 8 AA cell holder is OK, but the cable gets on the way of the cover and it takes a while to be able to close it, there's a lot of pinching of the cables involved so I shouldn't wonder if the insulation fails sooner or later requiring a replacement of the cables.
-Second is the very annoying and loud BEEEEP!!! you get with every-single-click you do on the buttons, seriously stressing to set up the radio at home, not good for conjugal life. To fix that I cut the leg that goes from a transistor to the speaker and added a 220 Ohm resistor in between.
-Third, no manual comes with the radio.
-Fourth setting up a V-Tail was a mind bending affair, I succeeded but I couldn't grok the logic of the procedure.

Besides those things it's a good product.

I purchased this transmitter & Assan XJ8 module from HC. First I got around the switch error bug (thanks to that reviewer)
For me the Assan XJ8 just flashes red once on start up, but gives no steady red LED & will not go into pairing mode.
Assan say they don't know the problem & suggest putting XJ8 in another TX (I don't have one)
Anyone know how to test if TGY 9X or Assan is the problem? Thanks

Great range - over 3000m, but realy to big receiver. Also dont like to small battery compartment, and antenna linked with wire.
You Also can't mix with AUX cahnnels - you can oly mix first 4 cahnells. No manual - It could be at least link at this product to download manual for Turnigy 9x. Also don,t like that this transsmiter in almost never in stock, or that there smaller 6 ch receivers I waiting for more 3 months So from me only 3 stars.
